



For anyone new to a blogging with Wordpress, using the widget function can be slightly confusing. I’ve had several friends figure out how to install Wordpress, upload a new theme, create blog posts, but not figure out how to work the widgets function. Here’s a short tutorial with a few tips…
1. Login to your wordpress account.
2. Click on “Widgets.” It’s under “Appearance” in the left navigation bar.
3. Look in the top right corner. This is where you can choose the location to put stuff on your homepage.
4. To add text (like exactly what you’re reading at this moment), then look on the left for “Text” and click “Add.”
5. Now, a blue bar appeared on the right. Click “edit” on this blue bar.
6. You have a blank box. Notice you can add a title if you want, or simply start writing in the main box. Either is fine.
7. To put text on other parts of your homepage… use the drop down menu in the top right again.
8. Notice you can add all kinds of cool stuff to your homepage like links, tag clouds, an RSS feed, or a search box.
Here’s the most important thing to remember: you absolutely must hit “save changes” on the right hand side for your widget to publish.




Google’s mission is to organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful.
This is the most important principle for creating an SEO strategy. If your website is useful and well organized, you are helping Google accomplish their mission, and thus you are more likely to gain better rankings.
If your website provides value, other websites will naturally begin to link to you. This is the reason why Google weighs so much importance on valid links in helping determine ranks.
Ask yourself, “What value will others find in my website?” Is it just a place where users are asked to immediately hand over personal information, credit card numbers, or email addresses? Does your website provide content that users will find interesting and valuable?
In summary, keep Google’s mission top of mind when fleshing out your SEO strategy. As the industry progresses, and as search engines become more sophisticated, websites that fall in line with Google’s mission will ultimately prevail in page ranks.




Search Engine Optimization, often called SEO, is the art of gaining high rankings in search engine results. Search engines rank results based on three basic principles: linking, content, and architecture.
Linking is by far the most important aspect of SEO. Gaining a link is a statement that your site provides value and someone finds it useful. For instance, since my website is generally about Internet marketing & advertising, a link from AdAge would probably impact my search engine ranking more than a link from icanhascheezburger.com.
Content is the actual text, images, videos, or whatever else that’s on the site. Obviously, strong content provides value and thus will gain links. it is important to keep content focused on an overall theme in order for robots and humans to understand what your site is about and to find it useful.
Architecture is becoming a less important part of SEO as technology evolves as it concerns both web masters and search engines. Web masters have better tools to keep their sites clean and well constructed. The search engines are becoming smarter and overcoming obstacles that used to give them problems such as identifying and reading inline frames.
One way to see how Google views the value on your site is to check its page rank, an algorithm that assigns a number value between 1-10 to web pages. You can check a website’s page rank using the tool below.
